A plain-English overview of how HelloMula protects your household's financial information — and why our approach is fundamentally more private than bank-linked alternatives.
Bank-linked budgeting apps require you to hand over your banking username and password to a third-party aggregator. HelloMula never does this. You enter your numbers manually. Your bank credentials stay with your bank — always.
There is no way for a data breach at HelloMula to expose your bank login credentials, because we never have them.
Technical measures that protect your data in HelloMula.
Your password is never stored or transmitted in a readable form. HelloMula staff cannot see it, and neither could anyone who obtained a copy of our records.
Any action that changes your data is checked to confirm it genuinely came from you, so another site open in your browser cannot act on your account without your knowledge.
Sessions expire after a period of inactivity and are fully invalidated on logout, limiting the window of exposure if a device is ever lost or shared.
Repeated failed sign-in attempts are detected and stopped automatically, so nobody can sit and guess their way into an account.
Your data is encrypted while it travels between your device and HelloMula. Access to it is limited to the services that genuinely need it.
You can only see accounts and transactions belonging to your household. No user can reach another household's data, and the boundary is enforced on every request rather than hidden in the interface.
Password reset and invitation links are single-use and expire quickly, so an old email can't be reused to access your account.
Authentication and account events are logged and monitored to detect suspicious activity, so unusual access can be identified and investigated.
HelloMula is built to recognized secure-development standards. Everything entering and leaving the app is validated and handled defensively, so the common categories of web attack find no foothold.
An automated end-to-end test suite runs on every code change before it ships, covering authentication, permissions, and data isolation. Secrets and credentials are managed outside the codebase.
We take vulnerability reports seriously. If you believe you've found a security issue in HelloMula, please contact us privately before disclosing publicly.
